    Awesomeness.

    awe

What does it mean to be awesome?

Although I like to consider myself as someone awesome, this is a question that has been camping in my mind for several weeks now.

The whole topic of awesomeness makes me think, inevitably, in these individuals I’ve met in my life. This remarkable and outstanding people that just after exchanging a few words are capable of taking me from 0 to 100 in a matter of seconds.

I’m sure you too have your own group of people that has caused awe in you.
But how is it that they become so amazing and exceptional? How can we too reach that level?

Most of you are thinking: “It’s a matter of attitude.”
I am thinking: “Yes, but there has to be something else.”

Below, I’ve identified and listed (in no particular order) some of the main characteristics and actions that Awesome people harvest and put into action.

    Know your ‘Heroes’.
We all have people we admire and that we look up to. These can be either real or fictional characters; they can be alive or not. They are able to stimulate us into action and to inspire us. In my case, I have Heroes ranging from Picasso to the Pink Panther. Who are your heroes and why?

    Find your Passion.
This is a more difficult one. What triggers you? What motivates you and move you in the inside? Why do you step out of bed every morning?  I know people that at age 37 still haven’t found their true passion. The tricky thing is that it does not have to be something in concrete; it can be something abstract and intangible. In fact, it doesn’t even have to be something static; it can change over time, morphing after every meaningful, impactful life experience.

    Learn the hard stuff.

About that which makes you passionate. A.k.a: getting into deep detail. What are those things that cannot be learned in school? Things that can’t be found in a YouTube tutorial, that can’t be found in a book or manual. I am talking about learning to do the things that do not have one single correct answer.

    Associate with other people.
Connect with other individuals you think to be great in what they do. You can either find a group of people you share your beliefs with or, on the other hand, engage with individuals who are completely different to you; that perform the total opposite of what you do. You can belong to these groups in parallel or be part of one at a time. This groups will help you exchange ideas, beliefs, perspectives, impressions, plans, thoughts and even dreams.

    Do something relevant.
Start something. No matter how big or how small. Something that promises to add value. Hopefully, it will be something that you feel attracted to and that at the same time makes sense. Also, make sure it is something that serves a purpose,  not only for you, but for others as well. Add value. Create impact. Here is where you really start to be awesome.

    Have fun.
Awesomeness and Playfulness both have 11 letters. Search for the things that pop a smile on your face. Look for that joy in what you do. This is imperative. If you are not having fun, just leave it…and run. Run towards something that can bring back that special feeling of amusement and playfulness.

    Know when to reinvent yourself.
Not even awesomeness lasts forever. We all reach a moment when we have to rethink, readapt, renovate, refresh, renew who we are and what we do. The difficult thing is knowing when is that moment knocking at the door.

    Help Others.
Do not forget about your surroundings. You shouldn’t only create and do stuff to add value to other people; you could also help them in their own stuff. I am not saying you should run around offering help out loud. You will know when the right moment comes. Help them be awesome as well.
